ICE and USMS Release Paths
No ICE detention facility or federal prison was identified in Webster County. Federal custody still becomes relevant when the Webster County Sheriff's Office records a transfer to ICE or the U.S. Marshals Service. That entry answers when county custody ended and names the receiver. It does not answer when the federal agency later released, removed, transferred, or retained the person.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations handles civil immigration custody. USMS handles federal prisoners and transport, often before sentencing or BOP designation. BOP generally holds people serving federal sentences. These paths can overlap in time but are not interchangeable. Search the named receiving agency first and use the federal court when criminal detention authority needs explanation.
Trace a Webster Federal Transfer
Begin with the sheriff's final booking event. Ask for the booking number, transfer date and time, receiving agency, destination if public, and disposition or authority. An abbreviation should be read with the jail's code definition, not guessed. Once the receiver is clear, move to that federal system.
- Confirm Webster County Jail actually held the person under the identified booking.
- Request the final county event and the receiving agency's full name.
- For ICE, search ODLS with the correct identity route and country information.
- For USMS, identify the federal district and court case connected with detention.
- For a sentenced federal person, check BOP after designation may have occurred.
- Obtain the responsible agency's actual release or custody record before stating community release.
A federal path can begin after a local hold or detainer. A detainer is a request or notice that another agency may seek custody. It does not itself reveal the later federal outcome.
Search ICE Custody Status
The official ICE Online Detainee Locator System offers two principal identity routes. One uses an A-number and country of birth. The other uses name, date of birth, and country of birth. Use the exact legal spelling known to ICE, including hyphens or multiple surnames when applicable.
| Search route | Needed data | Result use |
|---|---|---|
| A-number search | A-number and country of birth | Checks the unique immigration identifier when valid |
| Biographic search | Name, date of birth, and country of birth | Checks identity when the A-number is unavailable |
| Reported match | ICE custody and facility/contact route | Directs contact with the holding location or ERO |
| No result | No public ODLS match | Requires spelling, timing, protection, and transfer checks |
ODLS is present-custody oriented. No result does not certify release. Recent transfer, data lag, a spelling variation, or a protected case may affect visibility. Use the facility or ERO route supplied by ICE to ask how custody status can be confirmed.
USMS Custody After Webster
A person transferred from Webster County to USMS may be awaiting a federal hearing, transported between detention sites, or held under a federal court order. The BOP Locator may not yet show that person. Search the federal court docket for the detention, commitment, or sentencing authority and contact the relevant U.S. Marshals district through its official channel for information allowed by policy.
Request the Webster transfer record even when federal information is limited. It fixes the county handoff and prevents a missing local roster row from being called release. If a later BOP record appears, match its register number and case before connecting it to the Webster booking.
Note: USMS custody can precede BOP designation, so a silent BOP search does not establish federal release.
ICE/USMS Records and Contact
Neither agency has a detention facility identified within Webster County. There is no local ICE or USMS release counter to list at the county jail. Use the federal system named in the sheriff's transfer field, then the district, facility, or ERO contact returned by that source.
ICE/ERO and U.S. Marshals custody
Webster County facility: None identified
ICE access: Online Detainee Locator System and its facility/contact route
USMS access: Relevant federal district and federal court record
County handoff record: Webster County Sheriff's Office, 87 Government Street, Eupora, MS 39744, 662-258-7701
Hours: No local federal facility hours published
The sheriff can confirm only its own booking and transfer. It cannot certify a later ICE release, removal, USMS release, or BOP discharge. Keep the calls and records requests directed to the custodian for the event in question.
Webster Transfer Record Fields
A focused county request provides the bridge into federal custody. Ask for existing fields rather than asking staff to explain the whole case. The Mississippi Public Records Act permits exemptions and redaction, so request segregable nonexempt material and a written citation for any denial.
| County field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Booking number | The Webster custody episode linked to the handoff |
| Admission date and time | When local custody began |
| Transfer date and time | When Webster recorded the end of local custody |
| Disposition or code | How the jail classified the final event |
| Receiving agency | Whether to pursue ICE, USMS, MDOC, or another custodian |
| Destination and authority | Public routing and legal basis where retained and releasable |
A record that says only “hold released” may need its code definition and the next event. Ask whether the person left to the community or whether another agency accepted custody. Do not infer the answer from a single short label.
ICE Release Versus Removal
Immigration custody can end in more than one way. ICE may release a person under an immigration process, transfer the person, or carry out removal. A disappearance from ODLS does not specify which occurred. Use the exact agency language in a confirmed record and avoid recasting removal or transfer as community release.
- Detainer
- A notice or request connected with another agency's possible custody interest.
- Transfer
- A handoff between custodians; it is not release to the community.
- ERO
- ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, the component associated with civil immigration custody.
- Removal
- An immigration action distinct from release into the local community.
Protected cases and data limits can also restrict what ODLS shows. A careful negative finding states that no matching public result was located at that time. It does not assert that ICE never held the person.
Federal Versus State Custody
MDOC's inmate search does not cover ICE or USMS. VINELink/MS SAVIN can provide participating county or state notices, but BOP and ICE require their own federal tools. A Webster County defendant transferred to MDOC belongs in the state system, while a USMS receiver points to a federal criminal path.
The Webster County released-inmate search path separates county, state, federal, and court sources. Use that boundary before concluding a search failed. A county bond release may appear only in the sheriff and court record, while an immigration handoff can move entirely outside Mississippi correctional systems.
Confirm Federal Community Release
Preserve each record as a dated observation. Start with Webster County's final event, then record the ICE, USMS, court, or BOP status that follows. If two official sources conflict, compare which stage each one describes. Transport, intake, court action, transfer, and release can all have different dates.
Formal confirmation comes from the agency responsible for the final stage. Request the existing release, transfer, or disposition record and use its wording. Personal reports, a vanished web result, or a county roster absence can supply a lead, but they cannot replace that record.
Resolve ICE Locator Silence
A blank ODLS search needs a controlled second pass. Confirm the A-number format, country of birth, full legal name, date of birth, and surname order. Note when the search ran. Recent transfer, a protected case, or data lag can limit a public result.
If ICE was the named receiver on the Webster record, use the appropriate ERO contact route even when ODLS is silent. Ask how current custody can be confirmed under policy. Do not substitute MDOC, BOP, or a commercial jail directory for an ICE record.
If the sheriff instead names USMS, stop using ODLS unless a later immigration handoff is documented. Locate the federal criminal case and responsible district. One federal label should not stand in for another agency.
Reconcile Webster Federal Dates
A county transfer time, USMS intake, court order, ICE update, BOP designation, and later release can all differ. Put the events in sequence and retain each source's wording. The strongest account states which agency controlled custody at each point.
Names can change or collide. Use the A-number, federal register number, county booking number, or case number as appropriate. Compare only the public identifiers needed to confirm identity. A name-only match does not justify connecting two custody episodes.
When no public record appears, document the negative result. Ask whether another custodian holds the file, whether it is protected, or whether a written request is required. A missing Webster roster row proves only that the local display does not show the person.
