Webster County Release Meanings
A Webster County release means one custodian ended control over a person. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. The Webster County Jail may record bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, or another court-authorized exit. It may also record a transfer to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE. A transfer ends Webster County custody while another agency’s custody begins.
Release terms need care. Bond is pretrial release and does not resolve the charge. Time served usually reflects jail credit or completion of a custodial term. Parole and earned-release supervision, often shortened to ERS, are conditional releases from MDOC. Probation can be ordered without a prison stay. Discharge means the sentence or supervision has ended according to the responsible agency’s record. A court dismissal explains the case result, but the jail event still supplies the physical release time.
| Release entry | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Community release while the case continues | Sheriff release line and court order |
| Time served | Custodial part credited or complete | Jail calculation and sentencing order |
| Parole or ERS | Conditional community supervision after MDOC custody | MDOC release and supervision record |
| Transfer | Another agency accepted custody | Receiving agency record |
| Dismissal | A charge ended as the court records it | Court disposition plus jail exit |
Webster County Release Record Fields
A useful sheriff release record is tied to one booking. Ask for the identifying name used by the jail, booking number, admission and release timestamps, release reason or code, legal authority, bond data when relevant, and receiving agency or destination when the event was a transfer. Charges and court numbers help connect the jail movement with the case. A booking photo can remain linked to the old booking after an active display no longer shows the person.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking number | The local custody episode being traced |
| Admission date and time | When Webster County accepted custody |
| Release date and time | When that custody episode ended |
| Reason or disposition code | Bond, time served, transfer, or another recorded basis |
| Release authority | The court order or other authority supporting the event |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether the person entered the community or continued in custody |
| Charge and case number | The link to the court docket and disposition |
MDOC has a different record for a state sentence. Its public detail can include an MDOC number, entry date, location, unit, sentence details, county of conviction, photo, and a Tentative Release Date. That date predicts an event. It does not prove that release occurred. For a disputed or completed state discharge, the time sheet and discharge certificate carry more weight than a web snapshot.
Request Webster County Release Records
No dedicated Webster County sheriff records form, online portal, fee schedule, or public records hours were found. Contact the Webster County Sheriff’s Office first to confirm its current submission method. A narrow request is easier to identify and less likely to create avoidable search or redaction costs than a demand for every file concerning a person.
- Identify the person by full name, date of birth if lawfully known, booking number, and a modest date range.
- Ask for the jail-register or booking entry, admission and release timestamps, release reason or code, bond field, authority, and transfer destination.
- Request the existing electronic format and an itemized cost estimate before work begins.
- If material is withheld, ask for the cited exemption and all segregable nonexempt parts.
- Pair the response with the order or docket from the court that handled the case.

Records hours are not published; call first.
Retention is not the same as online visibility. The absence of an active row does not show that the underlying booking entry has been destroyed. Ask whether the record and image remain retrievable by booking number and date. Sealed or expunged material may be restricted under the governing order and statute, so a blank public search is not proof that no custody event occurred.
Webster County Release Records Law
Mississippi’s Public Records Act, Miss. Code §§ 25-61-1 et seq., is the starting point for a sheriff-held release line. The Mississippi Ethics Commission’s current compilation explains that public records remain subject to exemptions and reasonable written procedures. Section 25-61-5 generally calls for production or denial within seven working days. When production cannot occur then, the agency must give a specific written reason and date, subject to the statute’s outside period and any agreement.
Section 25-61-7 permits actual-cost fees for search, review, duplication, and mailing, and prepayment may be required. Webster County has not published a fixed sheriff fee schedule, so request an estimate. The law also calls for nonexempt parts to be released after redaction and for a written denial to cite the exemption. Juvenile, victim, medical, active-investigation, sealed, and expunged material can affect what is disclosed.
The official law page also provides a clear visual reference for Mississippi request timing and fee rules.

The image supports the request process, while the custodian’s written response controls the result for a specific Webster County record.
Find Webster County Released Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. This avoids a false negative caused by searching the wrong system. The sheriff answers for a Webster County jail booking. MDOC answers for a state sentence. The local Community Corrections office and MDOC parolee search address active supervision. BOP addresses federal sentenced custody, while ICE has its own present-custody locator. Courts explain why a case changed, and VINE supplies notifications rather than certified historic records.
- Confirm the arresting agency and where the person was booked.
- For a Webster booking, ask the sheriff for the final event attached to that booking.
- If the entry names MDOC or another receiver, continue with that agency instead of calling it community release.
- Check the correct court for bond, dismissal, sentence, revocation, or another legal order.
- Use MDOC, BOP, ICE, or MS SAVIN only within that system’s stated coverage.
- When online sources fail or conflict, request the source record in writing.
For a recently processed local event, the Jail Releases: 24 Hours page describes the sheriff-contact fallback required because Webster County publishes no official recent-release feed. A named-person inquiry should still follow the full chain above.
Webster County MDOC Release Search
The MDOC Inmate Search accepts first name, last name, and MDOC ID. Use the unique number when available. Open a matching detail result, compare identifiers, then read the current location and sentence context before interpreting a date. The service is built around current inmate information and has no verified released-only filter or complete discharged archive.
| Search or result field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| First and last name | Starts a name search | Namesakes and changed names can mislead |
| MDOC ID | Targets a unique state record | Applies only to an MDOC case |
| Location and unit | Shows present state-custody context | Does not explain a prior county exit |
| Tentative Release Date | Supports planning from MDOC’s calculation | Not an actual discharge entry |
| Sentence and conviction fields | Connect the record to the right case | May not show every nonpublic detail |
The official search form can be viewed at the MDOC inmate-search source.

The screen illustrates the input fields, but it is not a list of Webster County released inmates and does not replace a discharge certificate.
Webster County Release Court Records
Webster criminal records split by jurisdiction and case stage. Justice Court at 24 East Fox Avenue in Eupora handles matters within its jurisdiction, including county misdemeanors and early felony stages. The Circuit Clerk at 6333 MS Highway 9, Suite 109, Walthall maintains indicted criminal cases and related dockets. Municipal prosecutions remain with the relevant municipal court. Identify the charge level, arresting agency, and case number before choosing a clerk.
Request the docket sheet, bond or release order, final disposition, sentencing order, and later modification, revocation, satisfaction, or expungement order as relevant. The judge’s order supplies legal authority. The sheriff’s booking record supplies the actual custody-end time. A court calendar or order date alone should not be recast as the moment someone walked out.
The Judiciary explains participating electronic access on its Mississippi Electronic Courts page.

The clerk remains the durable fallback when a court, account, or public document is unavailable through the electronic portal.
Webster County Release Notifications
MS SAVIN through VINELink can report custody changes from participating county and MDOC sources. Search one person under Mississippi, compare the reporting agency and identifiers, and read the exact event text. Transfers, return to custody, escape, absconded supervision, and release are different events. Several source-system changes may trigger several alerts, so read them in order.
A VINE notice is timely evidence, not a certified release record. The registration-link feature can help follow a person from county custody into MDOC, which makes a transfer less likely to be mistaken for community release. The VINELink Inmate Search explains the specific-person search and alert workflow. Formal confirmation still comes from the reporting sheriff or MDOC record.
- Parole
- Conditional community release granted through the state parole process.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may occur without prison release.
- Discharge
- The recorded end of a sentence or supervision term.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another agency to take or retain custody.
Webster County Federal Release Paths
A Webster County release entry naming the U.S. Marshals Service or ICE records a transfer, not a return to the community. A sentenced federal person may later appear in the BOP Inmate Locator, which accepts agency numbers or a name with filters. A release date or not-in-BOP-custody style result relates to that federal record and cannot establish the earlier county-jail reason.
The BOP interface and cautions can be seen at the official federal locator.

The federal screen applies only after a federal custody path is established; it is not a Webster County jail roster.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator is aimed at current immigration custody and may return no result because of spelling, protected data, recent movement, release, removal, or lag. U.S. Marshals custody has no equivalent public historic inmate locator. Use the federal docket or a focused records route where appropriate, and keep each custody episode separate.
Webster County Release Lookup Choices
Each source answers a different question. Treating one active locator as a universal archive causes the most common release-search errors.
| Source | Best question | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Webster County Sheriff | How did this local booking end? | The final result of every court charge |
| MDOC Inmate Search and Records | What is the state custody or discharge record? | A local bond release never sent to MDOC |
| MDOC Parolee Search | Does MDOC identify the person as a parolee? | The prison-gate timestamp or all probation |
| MS SAVIN/VINELink | Did a participating source send a custody event? | A certified historic release record |
| Court clerk | What order or disposition explains the case? | The exact jail processing time |
| BOP or ICE | What does the relevant federal system report? | A Webster County community release |
When two official records differ, identify the event each records. A bond order may precede the sheriff’s physical release. A Webster transfer can precede an MDOC entry. State both dates and meanings when supported instead of forcing them into one false timestamp.
A negative result also needs a careful description. Record the spelling, identifier, source, and date checked. The county’s web pages offered no official public roster or release feed during the research sweep, but that finding does not mean the sheriff keeps no internal booking record. An MDOC miss may mean the person was never committed to state custody, the identifier is wrong, or the public interface does not retain the past record. An ICE miss has its own present-custody limits. After any web miss, use a second channel and ask the responsible agency whether another name, archived booking, exemption, seal, expungement, or different custodian explains the result.
Webster County Jail Release History
The active Webster County Jail is the Eupora facility described in a 2022 Mississippi Attorney General opinion as built in 1965 through a county-city agreement. It is often confused in map and image results with the historic 1892 jail in Walthall. That older building is not the operative custody address.
The opinion and a WCBI planning report also discuss concern about the active building and possible replacement planning. No official source reviewed for the research proved that a replacement was completed. The current county directory therefore controls: 87 Government Street in Eupora. History should not send a person seeking a release record to the wrong building.
Mathiston Webster County Release Checks
Mathiston spans Webster and Choctaw Counties. That creates an unusual agency trap. A town name on an arrest reference does not establish that Webster County Jail accepted the person. Confirm the arresting department, the side of the county line involved, and the agency that actually booked or transported the person before asking for a release record.
The Attorney General concluded that a qualifying Webster joint jail considered in Mathiston would need to sit in the Webster County portion under the facts and law addressed. The opinion did not announce a completed move. For a Mathiston arrest, ask police where custody went. If Webster County accepted the booking, the sheriff owns that release event. If another county or a citation-without-booking path applies, request the record from that custodian instead.
Webster County Release Facilities
Webster County has one identified operative county jail and several distinct custody or supervision systems that may receive a person. No adult MDOC prison, BOP prison, or ICE detention facility was identified inside the county. Those systems still matter when Webster County records a transfer.
- Webster County Jail: local booking, release, and transfer records.
- Eupora Police Department holding/booking channel: arrest routing, citation, or transport to a custodian.
- Webster Probation & Parole Office: community supervision, not jail custody.
- Mississippi Department of Corrections institutions: state sentence, transfer, parole, ERS, or discharge.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal sentenced custody and release records.
- ICE/ERO and U.S. Marshals custody: immigration detention or federal custody transfers.
Choose the system that held the person. County of conviction alone does not determine where a later release is documented.
Facility type also changes the meaning of “released.” The Probation & Parole Office is not a jail, and a person reporting there may remain under community supervision. An MDOC institution records a state discharge rather than a local jail exit. BOP, ICE, and U.S. Marshals records belong to distinct federal custody chains. Keeping those boundaries visible prevents a county transfer from being reported as a completed release.
